They must believe that. How else can one explain the nonsensical, non-binding, non-things being voted on? One can almost hear the Senators now:
“Sigh, there’s nothing to do”
“Hey, I know, let’s try and set a deadline for the withdrawal of troops, that ought to take up a couple of hours”
“Nah, we did that already and it didn’t work. People got kind of pissed”
“Oh, yeah, I almost forgot about that one”
“Ooh ooh, let’s see if we can find any pork in the government to cut. The people always like cutting pork”
“Yeah, but what about our campaign donors? They’ll be pissed. I’d rather have the people pissed than the donors.”
“Oh, you’re right, all the people give us are votes, and I can’t buy a yacht with a vote.”
“Hmmmm.”
“Sigh”
“I’ve got it! Let’s create a news story. It’ll make us look good. We’ll hold a non-binding vote of ‘no-confidence’ for that Gonzalez fella over there at Justice. You know, that uppity beaner there that fired all those fine Democratic attorneys.”
“Why, that’s a grand idea. We can take up lots of time debating and arguing about it before we actually get to a vote. This will make us look busy, and make certain nothing gets done in the meantime. We’ll protect our donors, and fool the people. By George, you’ve hit on a right smart idea there.”
It seems to me, if the Dems have so much time for this witch hunt, which means noting, then they must believe there isn’t any government business of more pressing matters to attend to. Which tells me that the country must be running pretty smoothly right now.
Way to go fellas!
