This is disturbing to me. Back in March the Guardian Unlimited reported the New York City council voted unanimously to ban the word ‘nigger’ from New York City. Yes, I know, it was a symbolic ban. And there is not teeth in the ban, and even if there were, there is no way to enforce the ban. And frankly, banning the word nigger is not really a problem. But what is coming out of that ban is a problem.

In a perfect example of “give them an inch and they’ll take a mile” the council has now voted on, and symbolically banned two more words. The new words “ho” and “bitch” have now been banned by the council. I don’t know what a veterinarian in New York City is supposed to call a female dog now, since he can’t say bitch. And…well… I suppose there are many farmers in New York City, so the ho thing probably won’t affect them. And then….AND THEN councilwoman Darlene Mealy has the gall to say “I feel this should be it, these three and no more“. Can you hear my roaring laughter? Only these three and no more? What a joke. Originally, it was only nigger. Now two more words, and frankly, words that are not more offensive than, day, faggot, are banned.

So next will come faggot, then…oh..i don’t know, chink, and who the hell knows what else. I have to give it up for the City of New York in beating San Francisco to the groundwork for the Ministry of Truth policing what people say and how they say it. Making sure that every word uttered is for the greater good of mankind. Never mind that we live in a country where this kind of thing should never happen. Never mind that people, for the past 230+ years have died to protect my right, to say nigger, or faggot, or bitch, or biatch, or ho, or beaner, or wetback, or messycan, or canuck, or chink, or redskin, or raghead, or camel jockey, or sand nigger, or any other hateful and vile and sickening words or phrases I can come up with.

The problem is, that even words that sound similar (but have absolutely nothing to do with the word) to nigger have come under fire. Remember the Washington DC staffer who was forced to resign for daring to suggest a ‘niggardly’ approach to spending?

Mark my words, within a year I’ll bet dollars to donuts that there will be more words on the list of unapproved words for New York City. And I can give them seven (by way of George Carlin). Seven dirty words that you can’t say on television (if you are as old as I am, you’ll remember that routine – from back when he was funny). Those seven are:

1. Shit
2. Piss
3. Fuck
4. Cunt
5. Cocksucker
6. Motherfucker
7. Tits

One can run around New Your City and say these words all day long, without reproach. But if you say bitch or ho, you better watch out.
