Over the years, Bigsibling has moved around quite a bit. Let me tell you that, while living in all sorts of different locations is exciting and fun (and makes great stories for where ever you end up next), the actual moving stinks. Well, not the moving so much, but the relocation. Trying to find out all the stuff one needs to know before making an informed decision on what type of place to live in can be difficult from hundreds or even thousands of miles away. But, with the Internet, things get much easier. Now it is easy to find real estate values online so you know you’re not getting swindled paying for house that, in your previous market was worth much more than the new market. Not to mention things like mortgage quotes.

NationalRelocation.com is a central location to find all of this information out. This place is nearly a one-stop shop for relocations. They have it all, they can get you in touch with a Realtor, they have information on foreclosures, movers and even houses for rent. The only thing they don’t have – but which one can find plenty of on the ‘Net, is a cost of living difference section. That is, what you will need to make in your new location to maintain your current standard of living. If I had one request for them to put on their website, that is the only thing I can find lacking.

In the news still are all kinds of stories about failing homeowner loans. Homeowners in the recent past have taken extremely risky loans. Temporary low interest and what are called “interest only” loans. That is where the owner makes only interest payment, and does not pay anything on the principal for a predetermined number of years. This allows the homeowner to purchase a home that is more than they can really afford. The problem comes when the interest only period is over, and they must start paying interest and priniciple payments. That gets them in trouble and causes banks to foreclose on the mortgages. It all reminds me of the whole Savings & Loan debacle of the late 80’s (you younguns can Google that).

Loans in and of themselves are not bad. Sometimes people need them to get through things. To get something they need, like a car. Sure, it would be better to be able to pay cash for a car, but in reality, to get a good, reliable car, one almost always has to get a loan of some sort. Look at it this way, one can by a $1000 car, and spend $200 a month on maintenance just to keep it running. Or they can put that $1000 down on a reliable used car and spend $150 a month for the next couple of years paying it off.

Personal loans are a neccessity in this day and age, no matter how you look at it. Whether you are talking about payday loans, or credit cards, or car loans or home mortgages. Sometimes, there just isn’t an option. Like when my heater went kapunk last fall. I had to go into debt to get a new heater – it was either pay interest on a new heater, or pay a exhorbitant amount of money to the electric company running space heaters in my house all winter, trying to save the money. Either way, I was going to pay through the nose for it.

Drugs are bad – no, really, they are

Drugs are bad. I don’t know how to impress this on people to get them to realize the horrendous affects drug and alcohol abuse has on a person, their family and their friends. All one has to do these days is look at the train wrecks that the current crop of pop stars create to see how bad these things are.

There is Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton – just to name a few. Youngsters look up to these people. Youngsters idolize these people. Right or wrong, they do. Currently, I am using these wrecked and ruined lives as an example to my kids to try and impress on them how completely vile drug abuse is.

If there is a drug problem with one’s friend or family, there is always a drug rehab nearby. For those with questions, there is the 100 No Drugs website (http://www.1800nodrugs.com). This website is a free service that offers information on drug rehab programs in every area, as well as information on the different types of drugs people commonly abuse. You know, that phrase “drugs people commonly abuse” really should not have to be uttered.

If you haven’t gotten a clue by now, Bigsibling came of age in the 80’s. That’s right, the 80’s. Billy Idol, big hair, parachute pants and MTV when MTV still played music videos. One of the all time greatest bands was “The Police” (you kids might recognize Sting as one of members).

When Bigsibling heard there was a reunion tour for The Police (and a new police cd he got all excited and started saving his pennies. Man he wanted to go to that concert. But alas, they are skipping Kansas City completely on their world tour. Nope, no KC, closest they will come are Chicago and Dallas. However, Bigsibling has entered in the local Topeka radio station to win a trip to see them in Dallas. But as Bigsibling is generally not the luckiest person on the face of the earth (it is hard to believe, but true) his chances of winning are almost exactly, but not quite the same as a bowling ball floating. But that doesn’t stop him from hoping and dreaming.

At least Bigsibling can kick back and listen to the new 2 disc police cd of all of their greatest hits. From “King of Pain”, “Every Breath You Take”, “Do do do de da da da”, and what is probably their most famous, “Roxanne” (even Bigsibling’s younguns know that one).

Now, as you probably now, Bigsibling doesn’t get all that excited about much, but hey, this is The Police. This is even better than The Eagles “Hell Freezes Over Tour.”

PayPerPost – the place where most of the adverts you see here come from – has a new and exciting opportunity for bloggers to earn more income just blogging. The program is called PPP Direct.

PPP Direct works like this; You put the PPP Direct graphic or link on your blog (see mine to the left), then a visitor visits your blog, believes what you are writing or doing is in line with their target customers, and buys an ad on your site specifically.

You set a base price for an ad, and then negotiate the final price directly with the advertiser. Of course, PPP has to get their cut, they are, after all, the broker for the whole shebang. They have overhead and it isn’t free to pay via paypal you know.

The difference lies in how much the split. While other sites, such as “ReviewMe” take as much as 50% or more, PPP will only take 10%. It’s like this, if you are charging $20 for a review, and you use one of those other places, the advertiser pays the $20 and you get $10. Whereas with PPP Direct, you get $18 and PPP gets $2.

Now, it doesn’t take a math geek to figure out that $18 is way better than $10.

Sun, sand, surf, palm trees, the sound of the ocean waves crashing against the shore. Blue skies and bluer waters. Mountains, waterfalls, rivers, exotic wildlife. All of this, and more, are contained on the islands of Hawaii.

I had never really wanted to visit Hawaii. I figured there would be just too much tourism. But, as I speak with people who have been there, I am beginning to change my mind. One way around the tourism angle is to rent a condo, or villa. This gets one out of the traditional tourist areas (such as those over-populated with giant hotels) and gives one more freedom as to what they want to do and where they want to go.

By not staying at a traditional hotel or resort, one can get a truly relaxing, tropical vacation with privacy and comfort. One isn’t forced to eat out at every meal as condos and villas like a wailea oceanfront condo contain kitchens, and all the essentials (sans the food of course) for preparing meals. In addition, the per-person rate is often much less for a condo or villa than for a traditional hotel. Not much of a problem if there are only two or three people, but if one is a good Catholic, they usually have a large family, and the condo route can be a great deal of saving.

Ooh man, where was the Internet when Bigsibling was young and available? Back in the day, if someone wanted to seduce a celebrity, it would probably land that person in a mental hospital for stalking (there weren’t laws against stalking back then, but they’d put you in the funny house at the drop of a hat).

Now, all one has to do is look at the Free videos at GoFish.com and submit a video. Anyone can enter the contest. The site has several videos explaining the contest, and gives some ideas for submitting videos. So far, my favorites are the goofy Elvis guy and the spastic dancer guy.

The celebrity participating is Mirelly Taylor from the movies “Kiss me Again”, “Serving Sara” and some television shows like “Las Vegas” (one of Bigsibling’s personal favs) and “Numb3rs” (a fav of Bigsibling’s 5/8th).

And Bigsibling has to tell ya’ that this lady is quite the looker. Not in the Ginger way, but in the more likeable Mary Ann way. If I was single, I would certainly be entering this contest in a hurry. So far there are only about 20 videos submitted and some of those are the same people submitting multiple videos, so head on over to GoFish.com and submit your seduction vid. Remember, you heard about it here, so make sure you give Bigsibling the low down if you win!

how is your ARM?
May 10th, 2007 under Adverts. [ Comments: none ]

Most of us normal folks need them. We need them because there is no way on God’s green earth we could afford a house wihtout them. At least, not one that we’d actually want to own. That’s right, I’m talking about the mortgage. Some people advocate that you can save enough money to pay cash for a house. And that is probably true, if you wanted to. But lets face it. With houses of any decent size in any decent neighborhood running $150K or more, that is an awful lot of years eating mac & cheese just to pay cash for a house.

No, the mortage is, in my opinion, the much better way to go. Some people get scammed, and end up paying way too much in interest or what not. The best thing is to shop around for your mortgage. Go to different places, and listen and investigate what they are offering. With all the mortgage brokers available today, it is getting easier and easier to find a good deal.

Remortage is always an option if you are one of those with an ARM that is just going up and up. Other options for getting that little bit of cash you might need to replace that water heater or oven would be secured loans or even an equity load.

Drugs hurt more than the junkies
April 18th, 2007 under Adverts. [ Comments: none ]

Drugs are a scourge of our nation. The destroy not only individual lives but also the lives of countless others. From employers or employees to spouses to children or parents. From the quickie-mart attendant that gets robbed just so some junkie can get their fix, to the poor little kitten that gets ignored while the junkie zones out on whatever junk they happened to get ahold of that day. Many, many lives are utterly ripped asunder by drugs.

When one is consumed by drugs, a good drug rehab program is the best option. Stone Hawk drug rehabilitation center is one such place. They have a nice serene setting, and some pretty snazzy, yet comfortable looking accomodations. They can assist with detox, narconon, rehab, they have inpatient and long term care facilities. If someone you care about is battling the drug demon, you owe to them to find a good drug rehab program.

how to pay for college without losing your mind
April 15th, 2007 under Adverts. [ Comments: 1 ]

My oldest son is going to start high school next year. The other day my father asked me ‘where is he going to go to college.’ Has this guy seen the price of college these days? I answered him ‘whereever the US Army sends him.’ – I don’t think he liked my answer.Believe me, I have thought about my kids’ future education. But crimeny, it would take nearly what I make in a year to put just one of them through college…let alone three of them! Luckily things have changed since I was college age. Back in the day, a person could not qualify for a subsidized student loan if their parents were above a certain income bracket (I don’t know what bracket that was, only that my parents were above it).

College loans these days are available to everyone. And they are available in a variety of ways. One of the most popular are SLM loans…commonly referred to as Sallie Mae loans. This organization used to be part of the federal government, but in the past three years has split and is not longer associated with the feds.

While surfing around and checking on information on how in the world to pay for college, I cam across PremierStudentLoad.com. The site is informative and has a list of answers to questions I had in their FAQ. They seem to specialize in New Jersey student loans and Connecticut student loans, but also assist with loans throughout the country.

The only downside to their site that I found – being someone who was interested in findinf information about without handing over any information of my own, was the constant appearance on all pages of the form to apply for a loan.
