Government sponsored racism?
September 30th, 2007 under EU, Race, Stupid Laws. [ Comments: none ]

With all the talk of how European countries are so ‘enlightened’ these days with regards to just about everything; race, religion, sexuality, drugs and on and on, I would never have expected this type of thing from the EU. Especially in light of how some are saying that the term ‘race’ is an outdated term that doesn’t really apply to groups of people in the traditional sense (i.e. Hispanics, Blacks, Asians, Arabs etc).

The EU comes out now with an idea that should send chills through the spine of any thinking person. The EU wants to classify people based on their race. That’s correct, the European Union is moving to direct member states to collect race information on all of their citizens, and pass that onto Brussels.

People who have knowledge of history, may be worried (and rightfully so) that this kind of thing cannot lead to any good whatsoever. Will Jews’ passports soon be stamped with a “J”? Will the passports of Muslims be emblazoned with an “I”? When something happens in the EU, will ’rounding up the usual suspects’ simply mean folks of a specific race?

All of this and more is certainly not only possible, but probable if the EU follows through with this directive.

Read all about it at the European Parliament website.

Sharia Law: alive and well and not only in the Mid-East
August 21st, 2007 under Crime, Islam, Religion, Stupid Laws. [ Comments: 1 ]

For those that say the Islamic Sharia law is only practiced in “Iraq and some remote tribal areas of Pakistan”, I present to you 18 men from Nigeria. Not from Pakistan (remotely tribal or otherwise) and not from Iraq, but from Nigeria. You probably recognize the country as the place where the king/queen/ambassador or [insert title here] has recently died and left a large sum of money (MILLIONS!) that the dead person’s brother/sister/niece or [insert relative here] needs your help to claim. But I digress…

Anyway these men were partying at a hotel when they got really wild and crazy and dressed up as women. OOPS! That is illegal under Sharia law. Their punishment can be up to a year in prison, and 20 lashes with a cane. The men were at the hotel to attend a homosexual marriage. That has to get the lefties panties in a bunch. Who do you root for? The poor misunderstood Muslims, or the gays that are persecuted by them?

And it just keeps coming and coming…
July 31st, 2007 under Censorship, Culture, Free Speech, Government, Society, Stupid Laws. [ Comments: none ]

*** CONTENT WARNING
THE CONTENTS OF THIS RANT CONTAIN WORDS THAT ARE VULGAR AND OFFENSIVE. WHILE I USUALLY KEEP MY POSTS CLEAN, AND RATHER ‘PG’ RATED, I FELT I COULD NOT RANT ABOUT THIS SUBJECT, AND MAINTAIN THAT COMPOSURE, SO I AM GIVING WARNING NOW. IF THE READER IS OFFENDED BY WORDS, PLEASE DO NOT READ FURTHER – YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ***

This is disturbing to me. Back in March the Guardian Unlimited reported the New York City council voted unanimously to ban the word ‘nigger’ from New York City. Yes, I know, it was a symbolic ban. And there is not teeth in the ban, and even if there were, there is no way to enforce the ban. And frankly, banning the word nigger is not really a problem. But what is coming out of that ban is a problem.

California moves to protect kangaroos…while Australia moves to cull the beasts
July 24th, 2007 under Cry-Babies, Stupid Judges, Stupid Laws. [ Comments: 1 ]

Going to Australia? Can’t go to Maria Island at the moment. The Aussies closed the entire island for twelve days and it won’t be open again until 28 July. The reason? They have to cull the herds of kangaroo, wallaby and paddymelon (okay, you got me, I don’t know what a paddymelon is).

“There are two primary aims with the program itself, one is for the
welfare of the animals themsleves in terms of maintaining a sustainable
population on the island and also for the the native flora itself,” [David Whitelaw from Parks and Wildlife Service]
said. [source]

Meanwhile, several thousands of miles away, the courts of California maintain that ‘roos are endangered…or at least they don’t want shoes made from kangaroo leather in the state. For reasons unknown, the state of California does not allow products made from kangaroos to be sold or imported into the state. Oh who am I kidding? I know the reasons, because the whiny libs in California think the ‘roos are so cute and cuddly and the jump around and they have to neat little purses on their bellies.

A lawyer for the Humane Society of the United States, which filed a
“friend of the court” brief on behalf of plaintiffs Viva! USA, called
the court’s decision “critically important” for species other than just
kangaroos — such as grizzly bears, bald eagles and wolves, which are
dependent on state protection. [source]

Where in the world does that come from? Who would buy something made from grizzly, or eagle or wolf? Well, okay a wolf stole would be kinda nifty, with the head still on and everything (not for me of course, but the 5/8 would look smokin’ in something like that). Anyway, it is ridiculous to compare something as bountiful as a rabbit, to something that is barely hanging on in the world. That is idiotic.

I wonder though, will David Beckham (you know, the soccer guy) be in trouble as he plays for the LA Galaxy? He wears kangaroo shoes. If ‘roo can’t be imported, I have to wonder if they will arrest him, and if so, will it be before the game, or after the game?

The State decides who will commit crimes
March 28th, 2007 under Crime, Persecution, Personal Responsibility, Personal Rights, Society, Stupid Laws. [ Comments: none ]

A new policy proposed by the Blair government over there in Great Britain wants to mandate that all children are checked an monitored to see if they are at risk of committing crimes later in life.

The Government’s plan to prevent crime said: “Establish universal
checks throughout a child’s development to help service providers to
identify those most at risk of offending.

What would society do without the State to protect us from ourselves? Is there no longer any personal responsibility? With this type of program, not only is it extremely invasive, but criminals of the future can shirk their responsibility claiming that the State itself has determined that he would be a criminal. With a sentence like that hanging over one’s head, what is one expected to do?

A tax with a view…
March 26th, 2007 under Stupid Laws, WTF?. [ Comments: none ]

This is exactly the reasoning to NOT follow through with a national sales or value added tax. Sheesh. England now has what essentially amounts to a ‘boob tax’.

Lap-dancers at one of Britain’s biggest strip clubs must pay their own value added tax (VAT) bills, a senior judge ruled on Friday.

What century is this?
February 27th, 2007 under Constitutional Rights, Government, Politics, Stupid Laws. [ Comments: none ]

I’m sorry, I think I woke up on the wrong decade…nay…the wrong centruy.  If one can actually believe this bale of doohicky, there is an honest to goodness elected official in Kansas who introduce a bill to amend the Kansas Constitution with an Equal Rights Amendment.

I didn’t know things were so bad for the fairer sex (oops, can I say that if the amendment passes?).  But I suppose for Marla Patrick, statewide coordinater for the Kansas National Organizatin of Women (NOW).  She things we are still living in the stone age or something.

“Women should not have to fight for their rights with every changing political cycle,” Patrick said.  “It is unconsionable that women are denied full constitutional rights when they are equally contributing members of our society.”

Maybe I don’t see it.  Maybe the whole being a man thing gets in the way.  But where are women denied any constitutional rights?  Where are women being oppressed and living without due process?  Where is this taking place?  Is this part of the evolution thing Kansas is so nationally known for?  How are women fighting for rights with every political change?  Doesn’t Kansas have a woman governer?

People’s Nanny State of California at it again
February 23rd, 2007 under Crime, Government, Intrustion, Personal Rights, Society, Stupid Laws. [ Comments: none ]

Reason wins out in California…at least it gains a small victory, but not quite an outright victory.

California Democrat Sally Lieber re-vamped her bill which would have outlawed spanking children under 3 years old.  It’s been replaced with specific violations parents could commit while disciplining their children.

It is important to note that there is a difference between discipline and abuse.  Her bill lowers the threshold for abuse, and defines as abuse;

use of a stick, rod or belt to hit a child, striking a child with a
closed fist, and striking a child under the age of 3 years old on the
face or hand

Some of them I can see.  Hitting a kid with a closed fist, regardless of his age, is wrong.  That is plainly and simply abuse.  But using a build or rod?  No, while that can be abusive, so can the form of discipline loved by the libs – the time out.  A time out can be just as abused as corporal punishment with a belt.

Check any metro newspaper and one can find stories about kids being locked in their rooms, or a garage or a shed for hours, even days at a stretch.  But this bill would not prohibit that.

Instead, Ms. Lieber tends to believe she knows how better to raise children than parents do.  If the current state of the populous of California is any indication of the proper way to raise children, I’ll pass thank you very much.  What we don’t need is a country full of people who engage in the same type of thinking as the people of California.

Your cheatin’ heart … not in Michigan!
January 18th, 2007 under Crime, Humor, Stupid Laws. [ Comments: none ]

WOWSERS!  Watch that cheatin’ heart in Michigan folks.  According to Michigan laws, adultery is a crime.  Not just any crime, but a felony crime.  Okay, that is bad enough, but under Michigan law, the one who cheats, is also guilty of Criminal Sexual Conduct, which carries a maximum punishment of life in prison (and you thought it was bad just being married!)

“Fairness Doctrine” rearing its ugly head again
January 18th, 2007 under Big Brother, Censorship, Constitutional Rights, Government, Intrustion, Personal Rights, Society, Stupid Laws. [ Comments: none ]

Coming soon to a radio near you, stuff you don’t want to hear anyway.  Radio is a business.  Radio station owners are in the business to make money.  If they don’t make money, they don’t survive.  The way radio stations generate income is by advertising.  They can charge for advertising, whatever the market bears.

The ad prices are determined by how many listeners the radio station has at any given time.  For instance, if the radio station holds 250,000 listeners during the 12:00 to 14:00 time frame, they can charge more for their advertising than they can for the 20:00 to 22:00 time slot which only holds about 75,000 listeners.

This all makes perfect sense to anyone who has a radio station, or a product to sell.  If one wants to reach the maximum amount of people at any given time, they have to pay a premiumm.

Enter Congressman Dennis Kucinich.  This guy wants to revive the “Fairness Doctrine.”  The Fairness Doctrine was eliminated in 1987 because it was…well…unfair to radio station owners.  Basically, the Fairness Doctrine states that for every hour of opinion it broadcasts on one side of a subject, it must broadcast an hour of the opposing viewpoint.

This, on the surface, seems like it might be (stealing from Fox News) Fair and Balanced.  Now, everyone knows that talk radio is bombarded with right wingers.  From Rush, to Sean, to Levin, to who knows who else.  And there was a liberal radio network setup over a year ago called “Air America”, which failed miserably because they couldn’t generate the ad revenue because not enough people listened to it.

But it doesn’t matter to the likes of Kucinich.  His real goal is to shut up the likes of Rush and Hannity and Levin and how ever else is out there spouting stuff he doens’t want the rest of the country hear.

Look for his future bills to be announced soon, including the “Equalization of Opportunity Act” which will restrict how many industries any one person can be involved in.  And the “Anti-Dog-Eat-Dog Bill” which will dictate that if someone has a somewhat profitable business in one location, a competing business cannot open up shop to compete with the established business.
